Produced from molten basalt rock which is fiberized by pouring onto a disc spinning at a high speed.  Air or steam jets attenuate the fiber.  Variations in disc speed, air.steam pressures produce different fibers.  Similar to rockwool but the higher iron content; lower calcium content.  Higher temperature resistance than slag fiber.
