8th November 2005 - Affinia Under Vehicle Group Releases 2006 Training Center Schedule

The Affinia Under Vehicle Group has released its 2006 schedule for Raybestosฎ brand brakes and Spicer™ Professional Grade Chassis training classes. All classes will take place at Affinia Under Vehicle Group, which is located approximately 50 miles northwest of Chicago in McHenry, Illinois.

COURSE TC-100

BRAKE SYSTEMS DIAGNOSIS & REPAIR
Duration: 32 Hours                Fee: $480
An extensive four-day curriculum for the advanced technicians or quick study that includes classroom and hands on instruction. The program includes hydraulic braking theory and brake system dynamics. This course includes diagnostics and trouble shooting techniques. Repair techniques and preventive maintenance practices will be covered extensively. Drum and rotor resurfacing techniques, along with bench and on-the-car lathe operation and maintenance will be covered. We will review brake noise and solutions, and friction material will be covered.

COURSE TC-101

ASE BRAKE TEST PREPARATION
Duration: 24 Hours              Fee: $360
This three-day course provides information and training needed to help technician’s prepare for ASE Brake Test A5. Discussed topics include hydraulic theory; brake system dynamics, brake fluids, ABS operation, and MAP guide lines.  Test questions and practical lab exercise are used to help reinforce knowledge.

COURSE TC-102

BRAKE LATHE AND EQUIPMENT
Duration: 8 Hours              Fee: $120
This extensive one-day course provides detailed hands-on instruction on bench type and on-car type brake lathes. Learn the proper methods of equipment setup, machining and mounting techniques required to re-surface both cast and composite rotors and drum. Also included is the proper use of micrometers, dial indicators, and profilometers.

COURSE TC-103

BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
Duration: 8 Hours              Fee: $ 120
This comprehensive one-day course provides hands on brake service work utilizing original equipment (OE) recommended late model service installation procedures. Diagnosing and correcting total indicated run-out with a variety of methods including indexing rotor-to-hub, brake align shims, on car lathe, and traditional bench lathe.  Learn proper lathe equipment setup, machining, and maintenance. Understand cause and effect of brake noise and review noise solutions.  An excellent review and update for the seasoned technician or apprentice.

SERVICING BRAKES ON ABS EQUIPPED VEHICLES

This course involves a combination of classroom and hands on training utilizing vehicles equipped with ABS systems featured on passenger cars and light-duty truck applications. Upon completion students will understand system component identification, function, and diagnostic techniques. Discussed topics include ABS system operation, service precautions, and preventative maintenance.

COURSE TC-105 – New!

FUNDAMENTALS OF ELECTRICITY
Duration: 8 Hours              Fee: $120

Objective: Understand theory, principles, and fundamentals of electricity, and the three types of electrical circuits and their laws. This intermediate course will cover theory and test procedures required to properly diagnose ABS and other electronic devices.

Discussed topics include: Ohms law, measuring current, voltage, and resistance, troubleshooting electronic problems.

KELSEY HAYES, DELPHI, & TEVES ABS SYSTEMS
Duration: 24 Hours              Fee: $400

This course features intensive classroom and hands-on vehicle diagnostic training to properly service Kelsey Hayes, Delphi VI, and Teves, anti-lock braking systems.  The systems include Kelsey Hayes RWAL, ZPRWAL, RABS, 4WAL, EBC310/410, GM Delphi VI, and Teves Mark IV/20, Diagnostic equipment, service strategies and wiring schematics are the primary focus of this course. Instruction includes hands-on with today’s popular hand-held scanners.

COURSE TC-107

 

ABS ADVANCED DIAGNOSTIC & SERVICE
Duration: 32 Hours              Fee: $545

This course features four days of in-depth ABS instruction and is recommended for individuals who have had previous brake training or have completed course TC-100,  TC-104, and/or TC-106. Discussed topics include Hydraulic theory, Electrical theory, and electronic control components. ABS systems include Teves II, Mark IV and 20, Bosch 2U and 5, Kelsey Hayes EBC 4, 310, 325, and 410, Delphi VI and EBC-7, Bendix 6, 9, and 10. Traction control systems will be discussed in relationship to the ABS controllers. DVOM and SCAN tools will be used to diagnose system faults.

ABS SERVICE TIPS
Duration: 16 Hours              Fee: $270

This course provides the technician with the latest information for commonly asked questions on ABS systems operation. Diagnostic procedures, trouble code retrieval, clearing, and bleeding procedures are covered. Service procedures to make the technician’s jobs easier and some important published service bulletins are included in this course. The program is designed to be fast paced, and very informative. The technician will be exposed to little known and mostly unpublished service, diagnostic, repair information and procedures that have been field-proven by experienced technicians.

SUSPENSION & STEERING FUNDAMENTALS

This course will focus on the foundation of chassis, steering, suspension and wheel alignment service. Theory of design, suspension and steering fundamentals and an understanding of why certain designs and systems are used on various types of vehicles will be explained. Parts identification, function, inspection procedures, and diagnostics and inspection specifications will be covered.

ASE SUSPENSION & STEERING TEST PREPARATION

Discussed topics include steering and suspension system diagnosis and repair, alignment angles, alignment procedures, reading tire wear patterns, and wheel bearing problems. Practice ASE tests will be given and discussed.

ADVANCED CHASSIS AND ALIGNMENT

This three-day training course will give insight into the theory and application of thrust type and 4-wheel alignments. Basic and advanced alignment angles will be covered and how raising or lowering vehicles affects them. Alignment products such as shims and cams will be discussed and installed on various types of vehicles. Variable effort steering and different types of electronic suspension diagnostics and repair procedures will be covered.

COURSE TC-112

CHASSIS AND ALIGNMENT DIAGNOSTICS & INSTALLATION PROCEDURES

This one-day class will cover up to date problems being experienced in the field by technicians. Topics will include diagnosing and repairing steering and suspension systems that are currently causing high rates of problems. Proper checking techniques will be covered and practiced. The use of the proper parts for the vehicle, such as low friction design, will be discussed.
