21st June 2005 - EaglePicher Wolverine & NUCAP Introduce Dynamic Colored Shim Technology

EaglePicher Wolverine Division, in partnership with NUCAP Industries, Inc., has added some ‘color’ to the automotive brake noise insulator market with the introduction of Dynamic Color (DC) Shims. Competitively priced and highly-durable, DC Shims represent a technological breakthrough in premium product branding which will allow friction kit suppliers to add color integrated brake shims to their aftermarket replacement disc brake pad kits.

“This technology will allow our customers to truly differentiate their products while breaking away from the cost and complexity of painted disc brake backing plates,” said Steve Sehmer, Director of Business Development & Marketing for EaglePicher Wolverine. “This new generation of competitively priced shim products can be custom color integrated to specific friction company branding colors or a broad range of Pantone® colors.”

DC Shims combine EaglePicher Wolverine’s industry-leading NBR coatings with a highly-durable Chemlon® coating by Akzo Nobel, and are the product of a sophisticated manufacturing process.

A thick layer of nitrile rubber elastomer is chemically bonded to the direct contact (backing plate) side of the shim and acts as the “active” material for thermal and acoustic airborne noise insulation. Chemlon® industrial coating is then physicochemically cured to the visible side of the shim, resulting in a high durable, colorized material.

Chemlon® coatings are among the highest quality and most durable industrial coatings available, offering strikingly rich, glossy color appearance. Each performance coating is designed to endure high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and low coefficient of friction.

In the cooperative development of the new line of shims, EaglePicher and NUCAP remained focused on providing a shim that is highly stable and effective at noise (squeak / squeal) reduction in virtually all applications.
