30th March 2005 - International Adds Bendix Next-Generation Antilock Braking Systems to Class 8 Product Offering

Advanced ABS Technology Features Innovative Roll Stability

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC today announced that a version of its next-generation antilock braking system technology, ABS-6, has been added as a databook option on select International Truck and Engine Corporation Class 8 trucks.

The announcement was made at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.

Bendix ABS-6 Advanced with RSP (Roll Stability Program) will be part of the first phase launch at International on the model 9200i and 9400i premium conventional tractors beginning in April 2005.

This highly effective ABS-based traction control and roll stability system is an all-axle solution that helps to reduce the tendency for rollovers through advanced sensing, automatic application of the vehicle’s brakes, and automatic engine dethrottling. The system can detect a vehicle’s impending rollover, often before a typical driver senses it, through a robust system of sensors – including steer angle, yaw rate, wheel speed and lateral acceleration sensors. The sensors continually analyze inputs and make comparative calculations to enable the electronic intervention.

“The Bendix ABS-6 with RSP system is an intelligent investment in roll stability that can help lower the overall cost of vehicle ownership by reducing the likelihood of rollover incidents occurring. International has taken a positive and strong strategic step toward making these benefits a reality for its customers, and we are extremely proud to be a partner in that effort,” said Jim McClelland, vice president, original equipment sales, Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems.

In addition to the advanced system with RSP, by 2006 International customers will also have the ability to choose the Bendix standard or premium ABS-6 configurations. ABS-6 Standard is a no-cost option that provides core ABS control and robust diagnostic capabilities, such as traditional blink codes, the patented Bendix “Chuff” test, and comprehensive computer-based diagnostics. An upgrade to ABS-6 Premium adds Bendix Smart ATC™ traction control, enhanced diagnostic and prognostic capabilities, and customization options to the package.

Bendix developed ABS-6 in conjunction with its European parent, Knorr-Bremse. The system builds upon the familiar North American brake system with proven algorithms and sensors that deliver robust capabilities previously believed to only be available through electronically controlled braking systems. With reliable genuine Bendix components leading to more vehicle uptime, the system also features familiar ABS-based components and direct part replacement for easy maintenance and a suite of user-friendly diagnostic tools.
